  • 2012 – The Goldilocks vintage!  Not too hot, not too cold, just right.  2012 was the first civilized vintage after a string of wildly different vintages (06-09 very warm, 2010-2011 cold and wet, 2012 just right).  The wines made in 2012 reflect this balance.  Long hang time, slow ripening, average yields, bright flavors and acidity.  Not unlike 2018.  The 2012’s are kind of ‘right between’ the 2013s and 2014s.  Accessible as young wines, and aging gracefully with many years ahead of them still.  WA 89

  • 2013 – First vintage of severe 4 year drought.   First ‘early’ vintage in series of early vintages (2013-2017).  Very warm year, with low yields across the board.  Fruit was dark, powerful, tannic, ripe.  The 2013’s were extremely well balanced ‘big’ wines. Big flavors and aromatics / big tannin / big concentration.   Elevated ripeness and alcohol due to heat and drought, but the small yields produced concentrated and highly structured fruit which are in balance with the powerful flavors.  The 2013’s have a lot of longevity and aging potential due to high flavor concentration and structure. They are tasting beautifully now as some of the ‘loud and up front’ qualities have made way for the more interesting and complex flavors/aromatics.  WA 90

  • 2014- Very different than 2013.   2nd year of severe drought and it was a hot,  fast vintage, with everything ripening simultaneously.  The 2014’s to me are almost uniformly fruity, without as much depth and complexityThe upside to the 2014’s, which I genuinely enjoy, is that because of this ‘juicy/fresh fruit’ quality, they are super accessible and very easy to drink.   The 2014's have more red fruit than dark fruit, and a bright acid profile.  They are fun and tasty to drink now, are somewhat dominated by the primary and up-front fruit and will age gracefully.  WA 93+
