2018 Chardonnay - Sta. Rita Hills

Our second release of Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay.  Native yeast and barrel fermented in all neutral oak. Picked early for acidity and freshness, complete malolactic fermentation adds richness, texture, and weight. A 13-barrel blend made from Kessler-Haak, John Sebastiano, Donnachadh,  Bentrock and Zotovich vineyards.  (not yet reviewed..)

Matt's Tasting Notes:  Our first release of Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay.  Native yeast and barrel fermented in all neutral oak. Picked early for acidity and freshness, complete malolactic fermentation adds richness, texture, and weight. A 9-barrel blend made from Zotovich, Kessler-Haak, John Sebastiano, and Donnachadh vineyards.

Production notes
  • Grapes were hand-harvested from Kessler-Haak, John Sebastiano, Zotovich, Bentrock and Donnachadh Vineyards
  • Picked early for acidity and freshness
  • Fermentation in neutral french oak barrels with complete malolactic fermentation
  • Like always, we relied on the native yeast that the grapes carried from the vineyards to complete the fermentation
  • Sur Lie aging - aged in neutral french oak for 11 months on the lees prior to bottling, no fining or filtering
