Powerful and virile in the glass, the 2012 Pinot Noir Kessler-Haak Vineyard boasts notable intensity. A firm spine of tannin gives the wine much of its personality and drive. Succulent red cherries, mint, exotic spices and wild flowers open up over time, but it is the wine's persistence and exquisite beauty that truly elevate it.

Bold, rich and explosive, the 2013 Pinot Noir Las Hermanas Vineyard is a classic Sta. Rita Hills Pinot built on exuberant fruit and a real sense of flamboyance. The 50% whole clusters are nearly buried. Lavender, violet, cloves, new leather and licorice wrap around a core of blue/purplish-hued fruits. Even with all of its overtness, the 2013 retains striking freshness.

There's extreme, maybe even obscene, amounts of cracked black pepper on the savory nose of this cool-climate expression, which comes from the same 12 rows each vintage. There are also scents of roasted beef, asphalt and a pinch of lavender. The pepper character coats the palate too, diced by lively acidity. This is, perhaps, the most pitch-perfect show of Côte-Rôtie in California to date. -Matt Kettmann

This wine will really benefit from time in the cellar and will age the most gracefully of all our 2017 Pinots"

Las Hermanas Vineyard sits to the west of the Melville Estate Vineyard, just 8 miles from the ocean. It is planted on over six different soil types, all of marine origin. SAMsARA’s four rows of clone 115 Pinot Noir are located towards the top of the vineyard, where it is well-drained and aggressively sloped. This wine showcases loads of peppercorns, wild thyme, tobacco and pine-needle aromas ride across crisp raspberry fruit on the nose of this bottling by winemaker Matt Brady. Those herbal flavors dominate the palate as well, where wild chaparral tones meet with crunchy cranberry fruit. - Matt Kettmann

Our Reserve Syrah bottling from 2018 is a 2 barrel selection crafted for a powerful, complex wine that is more representative of the style than vineyard. This wine is meant to age, and held in barrel and bottle longer before release than any other Syrah we make. It's the best two barrels of the 2018 vintage, carefully chosen by our winemaker, Matt Brady. This wine jumps out of the glass with bold aromatics of bay leaf, peppermill, cassis and eucalyptus. "The 2019 Pinot Noir Lotus is a selection of the best two barrels in the cellar. The Lotus is a bit more perfumed and lighter in body than most of the other Pinots, largely owing to generous use of stems here. It's a style that works especially well in 2019. Time in the glass releases a whole range of purplish, fruit, lavender, spice and menthol. I would give this a year or two in the cellar." -Antonio Galloni
