94 points - Wine Advocate
Made entirely with whole clusters and matured in neutral oak, the 2018 Syrah Zotovich Vineyard has a medium ruby-purple color and layered aromas of red and black cherries, cracked pepper, bacon fat, licorice, bitter chocolate and mint leaves. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and fresh, with loads of spicy accents defining the long finish. -Matt Brady, Winemaker

"Intense aromas of rosemary, dark clove, dried ginger, pine oil and incense make for a very heady cool-climate expression on the nose of this bottling. It's bright and herby on the palate, where tea-leaf and Sichuan peppercorn flavors buzz through elderberry fruit." -Matt Kettmann

"The 2018 Syrah Zotovich Vineyard is a pretty wine but also a bit austere. There is terrific aromatic presence, and yet the wine feels a bit compact. It feels like maybe this fruit was picked at lower than optimal ripeness. Even so, the 2018 is nicely done. Time in bottle may help soften some of the angular contours that are present today." -Antonio Galloni

"Another Sta. Rita Hills release from this team, the 2018 Syrah Zotovich Vineyard was not destemmed and spent 20 months in neutral barrels. Lots of white pepper, cedarwood, cherries, blackberries, bay leaf, and briny, seaside-like nuances emerge from the glass. and it's medium-bodied and nicely balanced, with a more narrow, focused mouthfeel and ripe tannins. This is another well-made wine to enjoy over the coming 5-7 years." -Jeb Dunnuck
