Magnum - 2019 Syrah - Colson Canyon Vineyard, Santa Barbara County
94 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
The 2019 Syrah – Colson Canyon Vineyard is a grippy, rich Syrah which will stand up well with some cellar aging. This wine gushes with fruit and spice on the nose – cherry Dr. Pepper, black cherry, black plum and blueberry syrup. Hints of smoked paprika on the palate add interest and the tannins are reminiscent of well-steeped green tea. This giving, luscious Syrah is fruit-driven and a great pairing for smoked or braised meats, game or hearty stews. Drink now or lay down this full-bodied, expressive Syrah. -Matt Brady, Winemaker

"The 2019 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is fabulous. Wild and complex, the Colson Canyon Syrah is the sort of wine that demands attention. Dark red-toned fruit, iron, smoke, tobacco, chalk and white pepper form a compelling tapestry of aromas and flavors that emerge over time. This is such a distinctive and compelling wine." -Antonio Galloni

"From one of the more extreme and remote vineyards in the state, this bottling focuses on crumpled herb, oregano, marjoram, potpourri and crisp plum-fruit aromas on the nose. The palate presents pleasantly soft flavors of strawberry cream and rose petals, proving quite open and juicy." -Matt Kettmann

"Scents of smoke and violets are interwoven with blackberry notes in this reductive syrah. It needs time in a decanter before unleashing on a skirt steak." -P.J.C.
